America sits in first place in the overall medal count with 14 awards that include 5 gold, 3 silver, and 6 bronze

This year’s Olympics are a little different. Canada had never won a gold medal on their own turf before this year, so this year is important to the smooth people of the north . Of course every country likes being on top of the medal standings and the battle is fierce this year. So far the United States is leading. Snowboarder Shaun White recently defended his gold in the halfpipe, doing so well that he didn’t even need to do a second run. Lindsey Vonn, despite injuries, grabbed a gold in the downhill ski. Will the U.S. keep the momentum going or will the Germans overtake them?

WEST VANCOUVER, B.C. – The crowd erupts as the announcer belts your name and rock n’ roll echoes from below. Sounds like the perfect atmosphere to pump up an Olympic athlete, right? Not on the halfpipe, where snowboarders are rocking out to their own beat.”It kind of blocks out all the peripherals and when the crowd’s down (there) roaring, I’ll be listening to like ‘Drop The World’ by Lil Wayne or something like that,” said Canadian Jeff Batchelor, who cranks up his iPod during training and competition.

America sits in first place in the overall medal count with 14 awards that include 5 gold, 3 silver, and 6 bronze. The United States also leads the gold medal count for the Winter Olympics with no other country having more than 3 top finishes during the Vancouver Games at this point.
